The meaning of nervous

I’m home about an hour and a half ahead of schedule because we had to leave work early today. The day actually went by really quickly. I would have stayed longer if I could have. Florida is known for summer thunderstorms. Today was a big one!

I work on the second floor of a warehouse building with a metal roof. You can hear everything; the rain pinging against the roof, thunder off in the distance and LIGHTNING cracking right above you. Now, throw in the fact that your head is connected to electronic equipment to the equation and you’ll get the idea. It started storming pretty heavily about 3:00pm. I could barely hear customers on the line and unexpectedly, lightning cracked above our building like it was trying to say hello. All of our computers shutdown, the battery backups started bleeping like crazy and our headsets flew off in record speed. That was fun! I lost my call with Earl from Utah. He was a cool guy. He told me he has a Harley and that the POW shirt he was ordering would go with it perfectly. He offered to come down to Florida and take me on a ride. Earl said I had a nice voice. I thought it was a nice comment.. other people will argue that the Brady Bunch collector’s DVD was “before my time” because I couldn’t be over 18.. if they only knew.

Another order from the day was a man named Eugene. Eugene must love DVD’s because he ordered EVERY SINGLE ONE that we carry. I’m always curious as to why people purchase the things they do.

Most people get annoyed by the older people who call and want to have a conversation with you. I, on the other hand, actually like talking to them. I may very well be the only person that they get a chance to talk to during the day. Obviously I can’t stay on the phone forever but I don’t mind listening for a few minutes.

ITEM OF THE DAY!

DIY Jewelry Display

I have a love-hate relationship with jewelry. I love designing it, I love wearing it, I love spotting new pretty things in the store but I HATE finding a place to put it without misplacing it.

I’ve never really been fond of jewelry boxes. They’re often too bulky and take up too much room, particularly when you have limited counter or dresser space. Most of them are also made of a dark redwood with the tacky flowers embossed in the front. They’re just not pretty, IMO. See: box

I came up with a simple, quick and effective way of storing jewelry while also saving counter space. You can also show off all the things you love so much instead of shoving it in a smelly box.

I recently broke the glass out of a picture frame and the frame has been sitting up in my closet since.
dscf0045.jpg

I’ve also been thinking about what to hang on the bare wall above my bathroom sink:

dscf0028.jpg

I started by using two white push-pins. You should place them far enough apart so that they will support the frame on each corner.

dscf0031.jpg

dscf0033.jpg

Once you have the frame in place you can use any kind of push-pins, thumb tacks, 3M hooks etc. The push-pins weren’t my first choice but they were what I had available. I will change them when I have extra money. The placement is up to you. I estimated the length of some of my necklaces and used the extra space for rings and earrings.

And there you have it, a new use for an broken frame, storage for your jewelry and
free counter space!

Free CD’s!

***List has been updated with CD’s already spoken for***

Everytime I look at my media shelf all I see is stacks upon stacks of CD’s, DVD’s, games, books and magazines. I have 2 CD cases full of music that I don’t even listen to anymore so I’ve decided to offer up my half of my CD collection to anyone who wants them.  All I ask is that you send me a $1.00 through paypal to cover shipping. (if you want to snail mail me a $1.00, that’s cool too, just contact me for my address.

Things to know about these CD’s before you request them:

1. They are CD’s only. No cases. I only have inserts for certain CD’s. They will be marked with a **. I moved all these CD’s to a case a few years ago to free up space.

2. CD’s may or may not have scratches. Most likely, they do. Some of these have survived my torture for nearly10 years. They all still play.

Email me at armsaroundastranger@yahoo.com with the titles of the CD(s) you want. I will send up to 3 for $1.00 (4-6: $2.00, 7-10: $3.00 and so on).

Truck Nuts

Go ahead and take a look at this picture:

dodgeballs.jpg

A new phenomenon has taken over the motor vehicle community. Flying cars? No. Every car can now use green fuel?.. ofcourse not.  I’m sure you have either seen them personally or have heard stories about them.  Yes, those are acrylic testicles hanging from the hitch of a pick-up truck.  Living in a southern town, these lovely little ditties have become a “hot” commodity amongst the country community as well as racing fans.

What is there really to be said?  Well, unfortunately this fad has accumulated quite the following to where more than one company sells them. Just do a google search for “truck nuts” or “big boy nuts” and I’m sure you’ll enjoy all the different varieties of plastic testicles, that you too, can display proudly from the tail end of your vehicle.

I wonder if these men are married? What do their wives think about it? If they’re not married, I wonder if they feel that having a pair of testicles dropped from their truck bed increases their chances of getting dates with women?. Not this one anyway. I am personally disgusted at the sight of them.  If you’ve driven behind one of these big, hulking man-trucks and the balls are swaying in the breeze, you may be familiar with the urge to vomit that I’ve had on more than one occasion. The “jiggling” they do while bumping down the highway leaves me feeling violated.  Perhaps they should start marketing chrome vaginas to hang from rear view mirrors of a volvo?

I fell into a burning ring of fire

I’ve been attempting to do some cleaning today. Thorough cleaning.. sweeping, mopping, vaccuuming, cleaning my bathroom and dusting. The only problems are that the air conditioning went out lastnight making it 90 + degrees in my house since about 11pm lastnight and I’m allergic to dust. Needless to say, I’ll need a shower when I’m done. My poor cats are suffering too because after sweeping I noticed most of it was their fur.  I’m not saying that overnight their fur decided to fall out in piles but I do mean that it’s definately summer time now. Phew.

Today’s been a fairly productive day so far and it’s not even noon yet.  I was up at 6 this morning doing laundry.  I returned my DVD’s to the video store at 7 even though they were due back lastnight, maybe I can sneak by a late fee.  On my way out I stopped by the post office to mail out a little package for my friend John. They have this 24 hour shipping center where you can do it  yourself but when I got there I realized that the machine only took debit or credit cards & I didn’t have my card with me. So I used the machine to weigh the package assuming I could just get stamps to cover the weight from the stamp machine.. no. That didn’t work because some idiot decided it would be a good idea to shove a lollipop stick in the coin slot.  Whoever you are, you’re awesome!  I finally got the package mailed when I stopped by another post office and used the stamp machine. Hopefully it makes it to Kansas by the end of this week.

I’m thinking about throwing a 4th of July party at my house.  I have alot of luai decorations out in the garage and a canopy.. hmm. Anyone up for a party? If worse comes to worse, I can always go out to the beach and watch fireworks. Either way will be fun times.

**It’s now 6 hours later from the time I originally posted this. I am now exhausted and officially “hot-as-balls”.  My poor cats are miserable because of the heat, I can’t open the windows because it’s raining and everything will get wet.  I hope my landlord decides to replace the entire unit and not just a misc part. I think it’s time to retire that unit to A/C heaven.  Air is up and running and I am very greatful for any temperature under 85 degrees <3

I feel like the wicked witch at the end of Oz. “I’m melting!… I’m melting…”
                                                                                                                          Later!

Cas Haley

Cas Haley is my new favorite for the “recently discovered musician” category. I discovered this guy through the 75% retarded TV show, America’s Got Talent.

Here’s the clip of him from lastnight, performing The Police’s “Walking on the moon”. I’m not joking when I say that I get all bubbly and excited EVERY time I watch it. He has an infectious smile, you can’t help but love him.

During my search for him, I found that he’s in a band from Dallas called Woodbelly.

I really hope he wins!

26 year old woman missing from Ohio. 9-months pregnant

NORTH CANTON, Ohio — Jessie Davis was excited about the upcoming birth of her second child, getting baby clothes ready and packing a suitcase for the delivery.

She had decided to name the baby girl Chloe, which means “blooming” in Greek. The 26-year-old was in good spirits when she spoke to her mother Wednesday.

But Davis hasn’t been heard from since.

Authorities have no suspects in her disappearance and only a few chilling words from her 2-year-old son, who may have seen what happened to her: “Mommy was crying. Mommy broke the table. Mommy’s in the rug.”

The boy, Blake, was found by Davis’ mother, Patricia Porter, after she went looking for her daughter because she had not heard from her for a day. Blake, wearing a dirty diaper, was alone in a home with broken furniture, a pool of bleach on the floor and a bed comforter missing.

“My God something’s wrong!” Porter said in a 911 call. Porter told the emergency dispatcher that her daughter “would never, ever” leave the child behind. Davis is due to deliver July 3. A weekend search by police and 60 to 70 volunteers found no leads.

Besides the broken furniture and bleach, Davis’ home had a mattress in her bedroom partially off the bed and a knocked-over nightstand and lamp, Porter said. Items from Davis’ purse were scattered on the kitchen floor. Her cell phone was missing, investigators said, but her car was still at the home. The sliding patio door was unlocked.

The father of Davis’ son and unborn girl is Canton police patrolman Bobby Cutts Jr. He is estranged from his wife, with whom he has at least one other child. The 30-year-old Cutts was to drop off the boy at Davis’ home Thursday, Porter said in her 911 call. He could not be reached for comment Monday at his Canton home, where FBI agents and sheriff’s deputies searched Monday night, removing items. Cutts, who took part Sunday in a search around Davis’ home, was placed on paid administrative leave due to the stress of the disappearance, Canton police Chief Dean McKimm told The (Cleveland) Plain Dealer. Sheriff’s deputies also searched Jessie Davis’ duplex over the weekend and returned Monday evening with FBI agents.

“You just feel absolutely numb,” Porter said. “I see her picture on television and I think, ‘Oh my God, what a beautiful girl.’ And then it hits you, ‘That’s my girl.’”

Police have advised Porter not to ask the boy questions so that any recollections and information come out naturally. “Whatever comes, comes,” Porter said. “He plays a lot. We’re not trying to prod him or anything.”

Davis is employed by Allstate Insurance at a call center in nearby Hudson, company spokesman Mike Siemienas said Monday. A co-worker, Dianna Piltz, sent Davis a text message at 8:15 a.m. Thursday that wasn’t returned. “We freak out when she’s a couple minutes late. She’s pregnant and you always worry about pregnant women,” Piltz said. Neighbors said Davis lived a low-key life, and was often seen pushing a stroller. “Every now and then we’d see her out and about,” said Jeff Midkiff, 46. “She would wave, or whatever. She seemed like a very quiet person.”

In 2000 in nearby Ravenna, a pregnant woman was killed and her baby was cut out by a heavyset woman who claimed she was pregnant and took the victim’s baby as her own. She killed herself five days later when police traced cell phone calls and went to confront her.

Jesus, I hope they find her alive. :(
